About the event
Initially scheduled for March–April 2026, WAFCON was rescheduled to summer 2026 (July 25–August 16). Matches originally planned for Fes were ultimately moved to Casablanca: the tournament was played across 5 stadiums split between Rabat (Moulay El Hassan, Olympic, Al Medina) and Casablanca (Larbi Zaouli, Moulay Rachid).
On the pitch, this first 16-team edition produced a first-time winner: Cameroon, long a nearly-team, took their maiden continental title by beating Malawi 3-0 in the final. Morocco fell just short of the podium after losing the third-place play-off to Algeria on penalties.
For travellers, Rabat and Casablanca remain about an hour apart by train — a practical axis for combining heritage, the Atlantic coast and city nights, whether or not a major sporting event is on.
