Best Time to Visit Tangier: Weather, Strait Winds and When to Go
Tangier looks across the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain. Its Mediterranean climate is milder and wetter than southern Morocco's, with one major player: the wind.
The best time to visit Tangier is May-June and September-October: temperatures are around 22 to 27 °C, the sea warms up and day trips to Chefchaouen, Asilah or Cape Spartel are pleasant. Summer (July-August) is warm but tempered by the sea, around 28 °C, and the city is very lively, partly thanks to the Moroccan diaspora returning home. Winter (November to March) is mild, about 16-18 °C by day, but it is the rainy season. The strait wind, especially the easterly levante, often blows hard and can disrupt or cancel ferry crossings between Tarifa, Algeciras and Tangier. In 2027, Ramadan is expected from about 8 February to 9 March. For summer, book your ferry and accommodation early.
