Morocco in August: Weather, Where to Go and What to Do (2026)
August is the heart of the Moroccan summer: the hottest, busiest and most popular month on the coast. The interior and the desert are extreme, but the Atlantic coast is in full swing — warmer sea, lively beaches and perfect conditions for water sports. The watchword: book early, because this is the most in-demand period of the year.
In August, Morocco hits peak heat: 39-43 °C in Marrakech and Fes, over 45 °C in the desert. But the Atlantic coast stays pleasant: 25-28 °C in Agadir, 23-26 °C in Essaouira, with a warmer sea than in July. It's the best beach and water-sports season, but also the busiest: book accommodation and activities 2 to 3 months ahead. Avoid the Sahara and favour Agadir, Essaouira, Dakhla, El Jadida and the Atlas.
Morocco weather in August, region by region
| Region | Day | Night | In short |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marrakech / interior | 39-43 °C | 23-26 °C | Peak heat |
| Coast (Essaouira, Agadir) | 23-28 °C | 18-21 °C | Pleasant, warmer sea |
| Dakhla (South) | 25-29 °C | 19-22 °C | Mild, windy, ideal for water sports |
| Desert (Merzouga, Zagora) | 43-46 °C | 27-31 °C | Extreme, avoid |
| Atlas (altitude) | 22-30 °C | 12-17 °C | Cool at altitude |
As in July, the ocean makes all the difference: while the interior swelters, the Atlantic coast enjoys a constant breeze and water finally warm enough for swimming.
Where to go in Morocco in August?
The Atlantic coast (a must)
Agadir is the safe bet: a long, sheltered beach, warmer water, ideal for families. Essaouira keeps its cooling wind and atmosphere. Dakhla is the meeting point for board-sport lovers. El Jadida, Oualidia and Asilah draw local crowds for their beaches and lagoons.

The Atlas and the mountains
To beat the heat: Ourika, Imlil, Ifrane and the cedar forests. Mild temperatures, early-morning hikes and river swims.
Marrakech and Fes (morning and evening)
The heat is at its maximum. Sightsee early, nap and swim in the afternoon, go out in the evening. An air-conditioned riad with a pool becomes essential.
The desert (not recommended)
At over 45 °C, the Sahara is dangerous in full daylight in August. Postpone Merzouga and Zagora to the autumn.
