The season: favour spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November); avoid summer in Marrakech and the south, where temperatures often exceed 40 °C. The accommodation: medina riads often have narrow stairs and no lift, and the alleys cannot be reached by car; ask for a ground-floor room or choose a hotel with a lift, for example in Marrakech's Hivernage district or on Agadir's bay. The pace: prefer day trips by private vehicle, 1st-class trains between the big cities, and replace the 3-day Merzouga tour, which involves long days on the road, with the Agafay desert, about 40 minutes from Marrakech. Choosing Your Accommodation
A riad is a unique experience but not always practical: steep stairs, rooftop terraces and alleys taxis cannot enter. Some experiences are particularly well suited: the Agafay desert near Marrakech, the Majorelle Garden, or a day in Essaouira by air-conditioned minibus. A hot-air balloon flight is possible if you are in good shape, but it means a very early start and climbing into the basket.
