Marrakech in July: Enjoying the City Despite the Heat

July is one of Marrakech's two hottest months. Yet many travellers come during the summer holidays: with the right rhythm and the right accommodation, the stay remains very enjoyable.

Marrakech in July means average highs of about 37 °C and 21 °C at night, with peaks regularly above 40 °C during heatwaves. The key: go out before 11 am and after 6 pm, and spend the afternoon by a pool or in a hammam. Choose an air-conditioned riad with a pool or a hotel in the Palmeraie. On 30 July, Morocco celebrates Throne Day, a national public holiday. The best July activities: Ourika and the Atlas, noticeably cooler (from €9-15), Agafay with a pool (from €26), a dawn hot-air balloon flight (from €52-61) and an escape to Essaouira, where it rarely tops 23 °C (from €7-12). Summer school holidays make hotels with pools very popular: book early.
