Morocco or Thailand: Which Destination to Choose?
Morocco and Thailand are two classic choices for an exotic trip on a controlled budget. Yet almost everything sets them apart: distance, climate, best season and the type of adventure. Here is an honest comparison to help you decide.
Choose Morocco for a short or medium trip (one to two weeks): about 3.5 hours' flight from Paris and around 3 hours from London, little or no jet lag, visa-free for up to 90 days for most Europeans, and rare variety within short distances (the medinas of Marrakech and Fes, the Sahara desert, the Atlas and the Atlantic coast). The airfare is much lower, which cuts the total budget. Choose Thailand for tropical beaches with warm water all year on the islands, street food and a trip of three weeks or more: expect 11 to 12 hours' direct flight to Bangkok from Europe and a 5 to 6 hour time difference. Note: since 15 September 2026, Thailand's visa exemption for many nationalities, including most EU countries, has been cut from 60 to 30 days, extendable once by 30 days in the country (about 1,900 baht). Thailand's best season runs from November to February; Morocco's is spring and autumn.
