Fes has a more contrasting climate than Marrakech: scorching summers, cool and damp winters. When exploring one of the largest medinas in the world, your choice of dates really matters.
The best time to visit Fes is spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November): highs are around 20 to 27 °C, ideal for walking for hours through the UNESCO-listed medina. Summer is very hot, with average highs of about 36 °C in July-August: sightsee early in the morning and choose an air-conditioned riad. Winter (December to February) is cool, around 16-17 °C by day and 4 °C at night, with most of the year's rain falling between November and March; riads can be cold, so check the heating. In 2027, Ramadan is expected from about 8 February to 9 March. Fes is also the ideal base for a day trip to Chefchaouen or to Volubilis and Meknes, best combined in spring when the hills are green.
